Get Your Walk On!

Walking is Magic. Researchers say that walking can help you lose weight, overcome depression, lower stress, lose belly fat, lower the risk of dementia, build your immune system, prevent or manage high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, lower your risk of stroke and cancer, improve your mood and energy levels, sleep better, curb cravings for sweets and snacks, reduce the risk of developing breast cancer, ease joint pain, strengthen your bones, improve your balance, reduce body fat, improve circulation, releases endorphins, slows memory loss, increases your creative output and complex problem solving, makes you more jovial, leads to greater grey mater in your brain, lowers the risk of developing varicose veins, improves your executive functioning skills, improves your glucose tolerance, and decreases the risk of cataracts and glaucoma.

Oh, and you are less likely to die over the coming 10 years.

AND ITS FREE! Walking is Magic! If this was a pill…

If you are lucky enough to be able to roll out of bed and lace up some shoes, the front door is your portal to all this good health, no matter where you are. Carve out some walking time, each day if you can do it. Join us on a journey to better health and smaller waistlines. Together, let’s be healthier, more joyful, and more present for all of those who surround us.

We are here to help you Get Your Walk On, with myth busting, science, advise from experts, reviews, and inspiration. We’ll even offer accountability, if you want it. You will serve as our reminder to get out there nearly every day. We hope to keep you excited about this journey, laughing with us over the absurdities, and engaged with us in the why’s, how’s and who-are-we-doing-this-fors. [Apologies to my high school writing instructor who just turned over in her grave over the construction of that last sentence]. We’re excited to go on this journey with you!

If you  are newish to the idea of walking as regular exercise look for the posts tagged with #gettingstarted. And then when you are ready check out the #nextsteps (you see what I did there? That’s my idea of funny. Your mileage may vary.). You can read more about my journey down this path with he #personal tagged stories. And there are more ways to explore. We promise at least one full post each week with useful information, inspiration and/or fun. As we start down this path and start with a readership of….checking numbers…zero, it may feel a bit empty. But I hope you will join in and leave comments as it suits you. More folks will find us as we gather steam. We’ll roll out some other ways to engage along the way. We named the site get OUR walk on because I want us to do this together. Writing this is one of my ways of holding myself accountable. Join in and make it one of your ways, too.
